How CCW Saves Our Sewer

Corpus Christi’s wastewater system comprises over 1,200 miles of wastewater pipelines, 102 lift stations, and 6 wastewater treatment plants, making it one of the largest and most complex sewer systems in Texas.

Repair Progress

Repairing and upgrading pipes to protect our environment is a priority for the City. Here’s how Corpus Christi has been investing in our community:

  • Since 2008, the City has decreased sanitary sewer overflows significantly. By comparison, the City reported only 52 spills and overflows in 2020; versus 1,400 overflows previously cited in 2008.
  • In 2016, the City launched a repair and upgrade program that repaired 20 lift stations. Lift stations help move wastewater from lower to higher elevations and eventually to our wastewater treatment plants.

Working with the Environmental Protection Agency

Over the next 15 years, the City is committed to improving infrastructure on pace with our growing population and providing improved services to the community. The City is working with the EPA to ensure that maintenance programs are cost-effective with minimal financial impact to ratepayers.
